Airport Authority signs MoU to setup solar power plant at airports with NTPC

AAI controls and regulates over 100 airports all over India. Airports in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Mangaluru are commercially regulated by private organizations and not by AAI.




New Delhi (Natural Energy News): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Thursday signed an MoU with NTPC associate to encourage the usage of electric automobiles as well as encouraged to set up solar power plants at the campus of its airports. A press release stated that NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), a subsidiary of NTPC, will be provided with sufficient land and roof free space at the identified AAI airports to install solar power plants.

AAI controls and regulates over 100 airports all over India. Airports in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Mangaluru are commercially regulated by private organizations and not by AAI.

"In the early stage, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam is launching projects at the campus of airports of Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan ... the specified solar capacity is around 55 MW and 8 MW at the airports in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, respectively, to serve 100 percent solar power airports," according to press releases of AAI.

The release stated that Tamil Nadu's AAI airports have 3.5 MW (megawatt peak) capacity solar power plants.

It is stated that 12 MW of solar power is being procured through open access to Chennai Airport.

The release stated that AAI and NVVN will work jointly to support the Government of India initiative to adopt electric vehicles to build public charging infrastructure and promote the use of electric vehicles at airports.

In the release issued, a plan will be developed to adopt electric vehicles and charge electric vehicles at various airports.

The MoU was signed in the existence of senior administrators of AAI (Airport Authority of India),  NVVN as well as NTPC.
