SECI launches new solar-plus-storage tender

Chhattisgarh (Natural Energy News): Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids for 100MWac / 200MWp solar project with 50MW / 150MWh battery energy storage system in the state of Chhattisgarh.

As well as design, engineering, supply, construction, construction, testing and commissioning of the project, the contract will also include operation and maintenance services for ten years.

SECI has applied for funding from the World Bank and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payment for the project.

Bidders are required to pay US $ 900,000 as earnest money. Online bids are now open until 27 October, with a site visit planned for 29 September.

The launch of this process is due to a spate of recent solar tenders in India as the country strives to meet its target of 175GW installed renewable capacity in 2022.

Solarpack and Enel were among the winners of recent tenders for 2GW contracts that received record-low bids. Solarpack introduced a project of 396MW at a price of INR2.36 / kWh (US $ 0.031 / kWh), equivalent to around € 28 / MWh. During the period of the contract, the Spanish company said that it had only assured energy sales worth more than € 500 million.

Meanwhile, developers such as Azure Power and Tata Power contracted at an auction for 1.2GW of solar projects that closed last month. Commentators said the low tariffs obtained could be a result of the recent expansion of a 14.9% security duty on imports of solar cells and modules from China.

In terms of renewables-plus-storage, the 1.2GW hybrid tender in which paired hydropower, batteries, solar and wind power were praised by industry data as achieving competitive prices compared to coal power. Greenco Group achieved the lowest weighted average tariff of INR4.04 / kWh (US $ 0.057 / kWh) for 900MW capacity.
