SECI announces 100 MW solar tender with battery energy storage in Chhattisgarh

The last date for submission of bids is October 27, 2020.


Chhattisgarh (Natural Energy News): Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has invited bids for a 100 MW (AC) solar power project with a 50 MW / 50 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is to be developed at Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh.





In addition to the design, engineering, supply, construction and commissioning of the project, the contract will also cover operation and maintenance activities for ten years.

According to the tender document, SECI has applied for funding from the World Bank and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payment for the project.


The last date for submission of bids is October 27, 2020, and the pre-bid meeting will be held on September 29, 2020.




Interested bidders will be required to pay an amount of (70 million (~ $ 951,672) as earnest money (EMD).


To participate in the competitive bidding process, the bidder must have experience in the renewable energy segment through contracts in the role of contractor, subcontractor, or management contractor for the last three years.

The bidder should have experience in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of grassroots solar power projects of at least 50 MW or at least two projects with an individual capacity of 10 MW in the last five years. Projects should have been in operation at least six months before the bid submission deadline.


With respect to financial criteria, the minimum average annual turnover of the bidder should be (3.45 billion (~ $ 46.9 million) in the last three financial years. The bidder's net worth should be positive for the previous financial year.


Solar projects with battery energy storage systems are slowly gaining traction in India. Recently, SECI has announced some tenders that include BESS with solar projects.

For example, in January, SECI issued a tender to set up a 4 MW grid-connected floating solar project with a 2 MW battery energy storage system. The projects will be developed at Kalpong Dam in Diglipur located in North Andaman.


Last year, SECI issued a tender for 20 MW floating solar projects with 60 MW BES on a turnkey basis in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.





Recently, SECI has again extended the deadline for submission of tenders for 14 MW solar projects with a 42 MW battery energy storage system (7MW / 21 MWh each). The projects are set to be developed in Leh and Kargil. As per the latest announcement, the bid submission deadline has been extended to September 30, 2020.
