Kolkata (Natural Energy News): Trade unions of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, have involved a strike on July 24 to protest against the choice to chop wages for workers participating in the three-day nationwide ceasefire work this month. , Officials said on Sunday.


He said four trade unions - AITUC, HMS, BMS and INTUC - have jointly reported a one-day strike to the management of the Odisha-based subsidiary of Maharatna PSU.

MCL had issued a pay-cut order for workers participating in the three-day strike from July 2 to protest against the Center's decision to start commercial coal mining.

The three-day strike was termed illegal by the miner. Most 20,000 quarry workers did not report for work during the ceasefire.

Officials said this was the second time a pay-cut order for the strike had been issued.


The first example of such an order was in 2010 when a section of workers went on a day-long strike.

The strike in which OCP workers of Belpahar, Lilari, Lakhanpur and General Manager of Lakhanpur area have participated was illegal and it comes under violation of Rule 26/10 of MCL's Certified Standing Orders.

MCL said in the notice issued on 3 July, "In view of this misconduct on their behalf, an eight-day deduction as per Section 20 of the Code on Wages Act 2019 has been ordered by it.
