New Delhi (Natural Energy News): The supply of coal by the state-owned Coal India Limited in the power sector declined by 21.7 percent to 93.5 million tonnes (MT) in the first quarter. In the current financial year. According to a recent report by Coal India Limited, Coal India Limited (CIL) had supplied 119.5 MT of dry fuel in the April-June period of the previous financial year.



Last month's coal dispatch by the Maharana firm also declined by 19 percent to 30.94 MT in the last financial year from 38.14 MT in dry fuel.

In June, supply increased to 2.27 MT from 4.60 MT in the same month of the previous financial year.

Coal India (CIL) said last week that the situation would remain uncertain in the July-September quarter, as some states are resorting to fresh lockdown amid the increase in COVID-19 cases. Coal production in some major mines is still affected because of high coal stocks and low volatility, it was stated.

The state-owned miner produced 18.05 million tonnes of coal from July 1 to July 16, compared to 19.61 metric tons in the same period last year.

CIL's pitched stock on July 16 was 72.88 MT, against 33.17 MT during the year-ago period.




Coal India had said that due to the lockdown and various guidelines issued by the central and state governments, the normalcy has not yet been restored.

In the last week of March, the coal dispatcher was adversely affected, resulting in increased coal stock in the pithead. The coal stock was 74.629 MT as on 31 March 2019, as against 54.155 MT on 31 March 2019.

The supply of explosives in the mines has been badly affected due to the restrictions imposed on the movement of vehicles.




Coal India produced 121.01 MT of coal during April 1-June 30 as against 136.94 MT during the same period last year.
