British Petroleum to set up a new centre in Pune by 2021; 2,000 rent

Setting up a centre in India will allow BP to tap into the growing digital talent pool in a country that is strategically important to BP.


British Petroleum (BP) announced on Thursday that it planned to set up a new centre in Pune for its global business services (GBS) operations in India.




The centre, which will be owned and operated by BP, will provide business processing and advanced analytics capabilities in support of its businesses worldwide. Pune operations are expected to start by January 2021. When fully operational, the facility will employ approximately 2,000 employees.

Energy major GBS organization will support digital innovation globally. It will bring innovation and data analytics together to deliver efficient and effective business solutions for businesses. From customer service and vendor payments to financial accounting and control, it will support every part of BP.


Camille Drummond, Senior Vice President, GBS, BP, said, "As BP works to strengthen itself and re-energize, we are excited to accelerate the transformation of our business processes. Our new centre in India will enable us to place digital at the heart of BP's business. "

The oil giant said the new centre will lead BP's development and application of digital solutions as it works to become increasingly automated and transform its transaction processes. The new centre will increase BP's growing business presence in India.


Shashi Mukundan, regional president and head of the country for energy, said, "This was another important step for the company in India. The centre will allow the company to provide innovative solutions as it taps into India's diverse and efficient workforce, Expanding its footprint here and developing a low carbon business worldwide. "




The new centre will start recruiting candidates in the next few months, aiming to rapidly increase the workforce to around 2,000 over time. With its multiple investments in India, BP employs around 7,500 people in the oil, gas, lubricant and petrochemical businesses.
