New Delhi, India (Natural Energy News): In a groundbreaking move, the Central government has garnered the President of India's approval for an ambitious solar electrification scheme aimed at uplifting Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). The scheme, valued at ₹24,104 crore, is set to illuminate one lakh households across 18 states, marking a substantial stride towards sustainable energy access.

Paving the Way for Sustainable Energy
Under the Prime Minister's Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), the government is set to invest ₹24,104 crore in solar energy projects, with a commitment of ₹515 crore over the next three years. This initiative is part of a broader vision to provide clean and reliable electricity to tribal communities where conventional power infrastructure is impractical.
In a detailed statement, the ministry of new & renewable energy revealed that the central government will contribute ₹15,336 crore, while states will pitch in ₹8,768 crore. The electrification scheme is scheduled for implementation from the fiscal year 2023-24 to 2025-26, targeting off-grid solar power systems for tribal households in remote areas.
Financial Commitment and Project Components
For the fiscal year 2023-24, ₹20 crore has been allocated, followed by ₹255 crore and ₹240 crore earmarked for the subsequent years. This financial commitment underscores the government's dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
As outlined in the order, the project encompasses the installation of 0.3 kW solar off-grid systems, priced at ₹50,000 per household. Additionally, the scheme introduces solar street lighting and lighting in 1,500 Multi-Purpose Centres (MPCs) situated beyond the reach of conventional grids. The financial outlay for these components is ₹500 crore for the solar systems and ₹15 crore for MPC lighting facilities.
