Investment of Rs 1,810 crore is approved by the centre for Himachal Hydropower Project

The project is being executed by SJVNL (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited) on a build-on-operate-maintenance (BOOM) factor, will produce 758.20 million units of electricity per year.


New Delhi (Natural Energy News): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs authorized an investment of Rs 1,810.56 crore for the Luhri Phase-I hydroelectric project of 210 MW which is located on the Sutlej River in Shimla and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh.



The project is being executed by SJVNL (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited) on a build-on-operate-maintenance (BOOM) factor, will produce 758.20 million units of electricity per year.

The Luhri Stage-I hydroelectric project will be commissioned within 62 months.

The power generated from the project will help provide grid stability and improve the state of power supply. Apart from adding valuable renewable energy to the grid, the project will also reduce 6.1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually from the environment, thereby improving air quality.

A statement from the government said that the construction activities of the project would, directly and indirectly, provide employment to about 2,000 people and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.

In addition, Himachal Pradesh will avail around 1,140 crores free power from the Luhri Stage-I hydroelectric project, during the project life cycle of 40 years. The statement said that 100 units of free electricity per month would be provided to the project affected families for ten months.
