The official said the project would also help stem pollution and construction work is being completed at two other mines.

“By this month the tender process for 26 mines will be completed and the project will be implemented in those mines by 2022-23.

He said that Coal India has identified 14 other mines where the project would be commissioned in the January-March quarter of the current financial year. The project will be completed by 2024.

CIL has set a production target of one billion tonnes by 2023-24.

The new project involves installing coal handling plants with mechanized transport systems via piped conveyor belts, replacing the existing road movement of dry fuel.

Piped conveyor belt transport is a covered system for the movement of coal and thus promotes environmental safety and prevents potential coal travel.
