Andhra Pradesh has allocated 8,207 MW renewable power capacity

Of the 8,207 MW installed capacity by September, wind power projects accounted for the largest with 4,080 MW capacity

New Delhi (Natural Energy News): Andhra Pradesh, a major producer of renewable energy (RE), has installed RE generation capacity of around 8,207 MW (MW) by 30 September 2020, as per the latest data. The state had a RE capacity of about 8,203 MW as on 31 July 2020.





Out of the 8,207 MW installed capacity by September, wind generation projects took the most important stake with 4,080 MW capacity, followed by solar energy with a capacity of three,535 MW, as per the information shared by Andhra Pradesh's New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation. (NREDCAP), the state's nodal agency for implementation of RE programs, on its website.

The top three firms with the largest wind power capacity projects in the state were Scareon Renewable Energy, Helios Infratech, Energon Power and Orange Anantapur Wind Power. Skyron Renewable has a 189-MW wind project at Amidiyala, Helios has a 100.8 MW project at Bhadrapuram, and Energon and Orange have 100 MW capacity projects at Belugappa and Honnura-Palluru respectively.


It states that the total solar capacity as of 2019-20 was around 3,522 MW. The update on the status of renewable energy also showed that out of all the segments, only 13.75 MW capacity solar projects were commissioned during 2020-21.


Among small hydroelectric projects, the state has commissioned a total of 103 MW capacity as of September 31 of this year, while biomass, biomass energy co-generation, and biogas projects have contributed a complete of 443 MW to the state's renewable energy capacity.

According to the NREDCAP document, the share of municipal solid waste and industrial waste capacity was 47 MW. It states that the total renewable energy capacity in the state by 2019-20 was 8,194 MW.


The Andhra Pradesh government announced its Renewable Energy Export Policy, 2020 in July that would be applicable to solar, wind and wind-solar hybrid projects. Under this policy, land in the state will be used to export renewable energy projects to other states.
