Coal India has ordered equipment worth Rs 2,900 crore on Belize

The purchase package includes the cost of dumpers and parts for eight years, including a warranty period of one year. Belaz wins the contract through a global tender process


New Delhi (Natural Energy News): Coal India Limited (CIL) has placed an order of Rs 2,900 crore to buy 96-dumpers of 240-ton capacity at Belaz, a Belarus-based mining equipment manufacturer.





The amount for the purchase of the dumper will be met from the company's own finances. The dumper is mainly used in opencast mines and assists in the transport of bulk materials such as bulk loads, which is an important performance criterion. An executive of the senior company said that the board of the Maharatna company has issued a letter of closure and award of the deal.

The first batch of six dumpers will begin rolling within eight months of signing the contract. Subsequently, the remaining quantity on the green signal of their performance of CIL will be distributed in four batches every month.


He said, "This step is in line with our production and productivity developments in opencast mines". These 96 dumpers will be deployed at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), which will take the total number of 240 tonnes of dumpers to 162, with 66 operations in subsidy.

Of the 96 dumpers, 84 will be commissioned in the Gevra project and the remaining 12 in Kusmunda. Both are SECL's mega opencast projects.


CIL first purchased 77 dumpers of 150 tonnes capacity from Belaj for the Gevra project. CIL has also ordered a 190-ton capacity dumper from Caterpillar to 102. While NCL projects for 84 of these 102, the remaining 18 are deployed in Eastern Coalfields Limited's Rajmahal project.


SECL is the largest coal-producing subsidiary of CIL, contributing 25% of CIL's total coal production of 252 million tonnes in 2019-20. Close to 61% of SECL's total coal production is obtained through opencast mines. SECL contributed 47% of the total underground production of CIL during 2019-20.
