NTPC issues tender to acquire 1 GW solar projects for an investment of around Rs. 5,000 crores.

By 2032, the company plans to have a minimum capacity of 32 GW through RE sources, accounting for about 25 percent of its total power generation capacity.

New Delhi (Natural Energy News): Power-led giant NTPC has floated a tender for the acquisition of 1 GW of operational solar projects, with an investment of around Rs 5,000 crore.

In a tender or request for proposal (RFP) issued on Friday, NTPC has invited bids from promoters or lenders, authorized financial intermediaries of power generation companies, independent power producers or developers for offering operational solar-based assets based in India.

The tender final is expected to be held by October this year.

The document states that in line with its long-term corporate plan, NTPC is taking a number of steps to build its energy portfolio by adding critical capabilities to renewable energy (RE) sources.

By 2032, the company plans to have a minimum capacity of 32 GW through RE sources, accounting for about 25 percent of its total power generation capacity.

NTPC's RE portfolio consists of about 2,298 MW projects under construction with capacity addition projects.

The company is also considering increasing its renewable generation capacity through the acquisition of Operation Solar-based power assets based in India, for a minimum capacity of 1 GW, it stated in the RFP.

The company can quickly increase its power generation capacity for inorganic development or by acquiring existing operational projects.

The installation of a solar project takes up to two years according to industry standards.

The company has a capital expenditure plan of Rs 21,000 crore for the current financial year, and most of it will be spent on adding new power generation capabilities.

To achieve about 1 GW of operational solar power capacity, the company would have to spend around Rs 5,000 crore as per the envelope calculations.

NTPC, formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation, plans to diversify fuel mix by 2032 with a 130 GW company.

With a total installed power of 62,910 MegaWatt, NTPC Group has 70 power stations, including 24 coal, 7 combined cycle gas / liquid fuels, 1 hydro, 13 renewables and 25 subsidiaries and JV power stations.
