An official statement said that under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative, the government is aiming to set up 5,000 CBG plants by 2023-24 by 2023-24.

Communicating on the occasion, Oil Minister Pradhan confessed, "We have created a clear-cut roadmap for SATAT. Letters of 600 CBG plants have already been given and MOUs for 900 plants have been signed today. , A total of 1500 CBG plants are the various phase of execution. "

He said that an investment of Rs 30,000 crore is envisaged in these 900 plants. "An approximate investment of Rs 2 lakh crore is envisaged in a total of 5000 CBG plants."

The gas produced in CBG plants can be used as fuel in electric-powered automobiles. He said that biofuels have the potential to reduce the fuel import bill by Rs 1 lakh crore.

Pradhan said that SATAT provides for generating gas from municipal waste as well as forest and agricultural waste. Animal husbandry and marine waste are also included.

The policy provides for the guarantee of gas produced in CBG plants by state-owned companies.

"SATAT will establish an ecosystem for the production of compressed biogas from various waste and biomass sources in the country, leading to many benefits such as reduction in natural gas imports, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, reduction in burning of agricultural residues, removal of income Will be.
